A steel channel is an open structural section consisting of a vertical web and two flanges. Its cross-section resembles the letter C or U, depending on its orientation.
Steel channels are used for structural frames, equipment supports, vehicle chassis, racks, platforms, machinery bases and general fabrication.
C channel and U channel are often used as descriptive names for similar open-channel profiles, with the name depending partly on the section’s orientation and flange arrangement.
However, buyers should not order only by saying “C channel” or “U channel.” The enquiry should include the complete dimensions, thickness, grade, length and required quantity. Ferrite maintains separate MS C Channel and MS U Channel product pages.
Ferrite’s published range includes:
Availability depends on the material, grade, section, finish, quantity and delivery schedule.
Choose a mild steel channel for economical structural work, industrial sheds, machinery frames, vehicle fabrication, supports and general engineering.
Choose a stainless steel channel where corrosion resistance, hygiene, appearance or exposure to moisture, chemicals or elevated temperatures is important. The stainless grade should be selected according to the actual operating environment.
Ferrite’s published mild-steel channel range includes IS 2062 E250, E350 and E450 BR, ASTM A36 and S275JR. Its stainless steel range includes SS 304, SS 304L and SS 310L.
IS 2062 specifies structural-steel material requirements, while IS 808 covers dimensions and sectional properties for hot-rolled structural sections. Buyers should mention both the required material grade and dimensional standard.
Ferrite publishes multiple channel families with different size tables. Its pages currently show selected channel dimensions ranging from approximately 50 × 25 mm to 400 × 100 mm, but not every dimension, thickness, material and grade is available in every channel type.
Send the complete channel designation, web depth, flange width, thickness, weight per metre, length and quantity for availability confirmation.
A 150 × 75 mm channel generally refers to an approximate web depth of 150 mm and flange width of 75 mm.
That designation alone is incomplete because channels with similar outside dimensions can have different web thicknesses, flange thicknesses and weights per metre. Include the grade, thickness, section designation and required length in the enquiry.
Selection depends on the span, load direction, support arrangement, connection method, deflection limit, steel grade and operating environment.
Ferrite can help identify commercially available sections and provide dimensional or weight data. Final load calculations and section approval should remain with the project’s authorised structural engineer.
For a standard channel:
Total weight = channel weight in kg/m × length in metres × number of pieces
Use the kg/m value from the applicable section table rather than estimating weight only from the channel’s height and width. Official structural catalogues list dimensions and mass for standard ISMC sections.
Length alone is not enough to calculate the weight. A 20-foot channel’s weight depends on its complete size, thickness and kg/m value.
Send the full channel designation or size, such as 150 × 75 mm with the applicable thickness or mass per metre, and Ferrite can prepare the theoretical weight for quotation.
Provide the channel type, material, grade, dimensions, thickness, standard length, quantity and delivery location.
Channel prices vary with the section weight, grade, source, quantity, processing requirement, current steel market and transport. A dated quotation based on the actual specification is more reliable than a fixed online rate.
Steel channels may be quoted by kilogram, metric tonne, piece or complete length, depending on the product and commercial arrangement.
The quotation should clearly mention the weight basis, standard length, cutting charges, taxes, loading, freight and unloading responsibility.
MOQ depends on whether the requirement is for mild steel, stainless steel, a standard stocked section, a special grade or a customised product.
Send the size-wise quantity breakup so Ferrite can confirm the applicable MOQ. Smaller requirements may be possible from available stock, while production or special-grade orders may require a higher quantity.
Ferrite states that its steel products are supplied with Material Test Certificates to support material-grade and quality verification.
Mention any heat-number traceability, chemical and mechanical testing, third-party inspection or specific certificate-format requirement before order confirmation. Ferrite’s services also list third-party material inspection and NABL-approved laboratory test certificates.
Ferrite’s MS Channels page publicly lists makes including SAIL, RINL, Jindal, Tata, Pushpak, Mamaya, Mahavir, SKS and Balbir.
Send the project-approved make list with the grade, size and quantity. The confirmed source, MTC and permitted alternatives should be recorded in the quotation and purchase order. Supply from one specific mill remains subject to its rolling programme and stock availability.
Yes. Ferrite publishes cut-to-size supply and customised structural-steel capabilities through its manufacturing and engineering facilities.
Provide the channel designation, cut length, tolerance, number of pieces and whether identification or traceability must be retained after cutting.
Ferrite’s published services include cut-to-size material, CNC cutting, plasma cutting, SAW, TIG and MIG welding and custom structural-steel fabrication. Its fabrication facility also lists floor-boring machinery.
Hole-making, drilling, notching, brackets and connection preparation should be reviewed against the approved drawing and confirmed in the quotation rather than assumed as standard for every order.
Steel channels are commonly used for:
Ferrite’s current pages position channels across construction, manufacturing, automotive, energy, transportation and material-handling applications.
Ferrite lists galvanised finish options for its steel channels and MS channel products. Galvanising may be considered where additional atmospheric-corrosion protection is required.
The enquiry should state the channel size, application, coating requirement and whether cutting, welding or drilling will take place before or after galvanising.
Ferrite operates from its sales office in Ghatkopar East, Mumbai, and its factory and stock location at KWC Kalamboli in the Navi Mumbai region.
Steel-channel orders can be evaluated for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and industrial locations across Maharashtra. Regional dispatch depends on channel length, order weight, vehicle availability and the final destination.
Ferrite Structural Steels Pvt. Ltd. manufactures and supplies steel channels for construction, fabrication, machinery, transport, industrial structures and project-based requirements.
Buyers can source mild steel, stainless steel, C-channel, U-channel and galvanised channel sections according to the required grade, dimensions, thickness, length, finish and quantity.
