Both are flat-rolled steel products, but “sheet” generally refers to relatively thinner material, while “plate” is commonly used for heavier structural and industrial sections.

Mild steel plate is a low-carbon steel commonly selected for structural fabrication, machinery, frames and general engineering.

For ordinary carbon or mild steel, a density of approximately 7,850 kg/m³ is commonly used for estimation. The final commercial weight should follow the dimensions, applicable tolerances and agreed weighment basis.

The weight per square metre depends mainly on the plate thickness and material density.
